A Busy Weekend!

I spent my Saturday painting...painting some more...and then painting even more! :)

I was up around 8:30 am and get Drew fed and then started collecting things for my day of painting. After getting everything together, John drug himself out of bed to remove the baseboards from our 2nd main floor bathroom while I had my weekly chat on the phone with my mom (a quick one this time - not one of our usual 2+ hr ones). Then I was off to paintig while John took the boys downstairs to watch while he played video games. It took the majority of the day to get the bathroom finished. I did get the kitchen & living room doors and window sills taped off and ready to paint while the first coat was drying in the bathroom. Here is a picture of the finished paint job in the 2nd bathroom (a lighter shade of the blue that we used in our master bathroom):

(still need to get the towel rack back up)

After getting the bathroom finished (it was already after 4pm at that time), I started in the kitchen with the doors and window sills. WOW! It takes FOREVER to paint a door! And 6-pannel doors might look very nice but they are major pain in the behind to paint!!! I was trying to be SO careful so I wouldn't have any drips in the paint, but of course John was able to point some out when he came up to make the pizza for dinner. *grumble* While the crust for the pizza was mixing the bread machine, John helped paint 2 window sills. Thanks to the pain of a door (and I still have 11 more doors to paint *cringe*), I didn't get very far with that painting...only painted 2 coats on the ledge behind our couch, the window sills in the kitchen and the living room, the mantel and then around the fireplace. The one door I did get to, I only got one coat on. Since all I have left are MANY doors, I am REALLY hoping I get it all finished before they put the floors in! I didn't even get to cleaning the house up at all! UGH!

While John gave the boys their baths, I opened the windows to help air out some of this paint smell now that the sun had gone down and it was cooling down a little outside (was up around 80 today), it smelled like smoke...and LOTS of it. I thought maybe we were smelling some of the ice storm debri being burned...but John said that they are doing that on the complete opposite side of town. It was so strong smelling that my eyes were burning and watering. I think John thought I was being crazy. Well, I sit down to watch the 9 o'clock news and guess what...top story...Make sure to keep your doors and windows shut if you can because the air quality is so poor! Uh-oh! Ends up down around Mtn Home, Arkansas in one of the forests they are doing a controlled burn. Well, the way the wind has shifted, we smell it all the way up here in MO! Nice to know at least I wasn't crazy. So up I get again to shut all the windows. So now our home not only smells like paint, but also a little like smoke - yucky.

The bathroom looks great! But ELEVEN more doors?! (Cringe!) You have much more energy than I do. Don't even worry about cleaning up the house when you have a big project like that going on. It was nice of your hubby to keep the kids out of your hair and make pizza. Hope the paint/smoke combination doesn't make his migraines worse!
