We Have a New Roof!

Well, we might not have our flooring installed, but we have a new roof now. They tried to reach John Monday afternoon to warn them the shingles would be dropped of Tuesday morning, but John was in a meeting most of the afternoon. Since he didn't get around to calling them back Monday, they tried again around 7:30am Tuesday morning (which of course John wasn't up yet), so they left another message...but John didn't get his messages checked until he was at work and the delivery guys were already here. I was pretty surprised when I heard a big truck pull up and I look out the window and they are pulling up to our house. So they loaded the shingles and other supplies on the roof Tuesday morning and then by early afternoon the roofers were here...but it picked right then to rain so they didn't get started until about 2pm. Needless to say, with all the noise, neither of the boys had very long naps. They had to come back Wednesday morning for a couple hours to finish it up. It looks very nice, only thing is it is the wrong grade shingles :) We were suppose to have the Elk High Definition 30 yr ones (which have a larger variance in color and make them look more like wood shingles) and we ended up with Raise Profile 30 yr one. It is the right color, just with the difference in grade, they are a little darker. They also put white drip edge on instead of the light tan we had up before so that jumps out at you against the tan wood and we have tan siding. We have NO idea why they changed the color of that and are going to talk to them about correcting that as well as this other area where they have about 10 in of what looks like the felt extended up the brick between 2 of our levels of our roof

(not the best picture...pretty overcast here)

John was NOT happy when I told him today that we had gotten the wrong shingles :) I was looking through some pictures I had taken from Drew' bedroom window when they were loading them onto the roof, and noticed what the packages said...I know I am slow and should have noticed it before.
(can't really tell with that picture on here, but it says bold on the side of the brown packs "Raised Profile")

He said why can't anyone seem to get things right (referring to all the problem with the wood for the floors, and then the things we noticed yesterday with the drip edge color and whatever that other things is)and now the wrong shingles). :)

Now we are waiting to the guy to come put on the new gutters and downspouts. John was talking to the roofing boss the other day and asked what we need to do about picking out a gutter color, etc. He said they usually just match it to the drip edge......uuuhhhh NOT!! I shiver at the thought of what that would look like - white gutters and downspouts! We currently have the light tan and we would like to keep that since it blends in with the siding and the brick well.

lol - John actually just called me to say the roofing boss is going to come by and look at that weird extra felt. He also said they can paint the drip edge so it blends in well. Evidently there is only like $60 difference between the 2 shingle grades, so we are just not going to have to pay for the 2 new roof vents that were installed to help increase our ventilation to make up for the difference. :)

We are still a sick household. :) Zach is still fighting a runny nose, as well as a some wheezing and a mighty cough, but thankfully the fever seems to be gone. The coughing wakes him up while he is trying to sleep even, so he is still pretty fussy since it isn't letting him getting real good sleep :( The rest of us have come down with it too. Drew was the last to get it (just started Tuesday evening). Aren't we just such a healthy family.

Still looking at digital cameras. We have gone between the Canon XTi (which I think John has ruled out), to the Nikon D80, then the Nikon D40 (to save money but still get a dSLR), and finally the Sony A100 (which is pretty much the new model of my Minolta A2 since Sony bought them out - and would have the image stabilization in the camera body instead of having to pay extra $$ on every lens you wanted to have IS in). I would REALLY like the D80 after doing reasearch myself, but it is the most expensive of the group. :) So I will just have to wait and see what John decides. I am just not good at waiting - lol. I usually give people presents early because I am excited for them to have the gift. Christmas, having to look at presents just sitting there under the tree (even when they aren't for me), is pure torture for me. I know, I'm crazy.

I guess I should go figure out what we are going to do for dinner tonight. I need to come up with some new, easy fix meals...getting bored with our usuals again.

Wooohooo - just dawned on me- tomorrow night is scrapbooking night at church!!! Can't wait for a night out - especially since it was cancelled last month do to REALLY bad weather and next month I will be in St. Louis on the scrapbook night. I love just having time to chit-chat and of course eat some junk food with some of the other ladies from church. SO much fun!!! Thank goodness for a nice laptop so I am able to go join them :)

Ended up not being extra felt....was the flashing that should have been there to begin with. He said that they had previously just put down the shingles and then laid the brick on top of them....making it more likely to leak as well as a problem when you have to put new shingles on. They are just going to paint it to match the drip edge when they paint that. All is good :)

I like your house. Wow, what drama with all the remodeling. You won't know what to do with yourself once everything is all done! Good luck on the camera, maybe for Mother's Day? Drop some hints...
