Pink Eye

Ah yes, there is NO doubt about it, I have pink eye! I called the doctor's office this morning and talked to the nurse, she then talked to the doctor and called me back. I didn't have to go in to get medicine for my eye - they just called some in for me. But the doctor didn't send me out anything for the cold. I am suppose to wait and see and if I get any worse, call back. And to take Robitusin DM for the cough. At least I have something for my eye!! Thankfully it is still only in one eye at this point. I woke up this morning unable to open that eye until I had soaked it with a warm, wet paper towel first. YUCK! And it feels like little pieces of sand are in it right now. When I ran up with the boys to pick up the prescription (Ciloxan), both the ladies working in the pharamacy reacted the same way when they looked at me..."Boy, you DO need this medicine!" :) Hope not to gross anyone out, but here is the current state of my left eye (man I need to pluck my eyebrows - lol):

I have to use the eyedrops every 4 hours while I am awake. So far only one dose...hoping this will kick it quick! I have to say that these eyedrops are MUCH easier to use than the ointment I had to use the last time!!

Zach decided it was time to get up this morning at 6am (when Drew came into our room - with lots of noise I might say). He seems to be doing much better already. His eyes are completely clear, he is starting to eat better again and isn't nearly as fussy. He does still have a very runny nose and is developing a rough sounds cough (just like Mommy has :) ). Since he has taken that yucky tasting Zantac for most of his life, we have had NO problems with him taking the orange flavored amoxicillin. He sucks it right down and licks his lips like he does with Tylenol :)

It now appears that Drew has picked this junk up. So far he just has a very runny nose and a little cough. Hopefully he can avoid the pink eye. I have tried to be VERY carefully about washing my hands lots, not sharing pillows with him and trying to keep him at a little more of a distance from Zach. John is just waiting for it to hit him next :)

I FINALLY remembered to call the allergist's office to find out if we have to have a referral to have Drew tested. They were very nice about it, but said that we would need one. *sigh* Which means I now get to fit with the boys doctor about giving us a referral. We asked not too long ago about it, and she pretty much blew us off...saying that there isn't much they can do for a child his age besides shots... and surely we wouldn't want to put him through those horrible test...blah, blah, blah. We have been trying children's Claritin with him and it doesn't help at all, but I know there are at least a couple different medicines we could try with him. So I guess that will be a battle I will face at Zach's next check-up in May. We will see, I might try calling her office and arguing with her over the phone about it after he gets over this cold. John said just TELL her you want a referral, don't ask. :) The thing is...we have NO doubt Drew has allergies! The poor child wakes up repeatedly through the night cry and rubbing at his nose (especially during the summer) because it bothers him so much. He often rubs it so hard it ends up bleeding. So he isn't getting very good rest at night...or during his naps (since the same thing happens). And just maybe that lack of good sleep could be making him the hard to live with kid that we often have. It is worth checking in to I think! Especially since John has really bad allergies and I have seasonal ones (I use to have them bad enough that I took shots for them)...the boys are pretty well doomed to have them too.

Enough of me rambling on about my families health issues :) It is a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day here. I am hoping after the boys get up from their naps to take them out for some fresh air for a bit. Since I have a pot roast cooking in the crockpot, I won't have to worry about dinner until the very end, so its a perfect day to get out. Drew earned his amazing bubble blowing machine (we are going on 2 weeks with no accidents during the day...I almost hate to say anything and jinx it), so we might take that and try it out.

Oh my! Speaking of cooking....ugh! Word of advice, do NOT put one of the self-rising DiGiorno's frozen pizzas just on the rack in your oven :) We have been doing just that with the Red Baron ones when we have them (pizza on the upper rack and a cookie sheet on the rack below it just to catch any drippings) and it helps their crust to get nice and crunchy. So I did it - without thinking about it first - last night with a DiGirono one. WHAT A MESS!!! Since it is self-rising, it is a softer crust, which sort of sunk inbetween the bars on the oven rack making it impossible to get out of a hot oven in one piece! John came and got it off the rack for me, but it left a little bit on the rack and some fell off onto the oven door so I have a mess I need to get cleaned up in there...was needing to clean out the oven anyway but just kept putting it off. Now it HAS to be at least somewhat cleaned before I can cook in it again. Might have to try the self-cleaning thingy on the oven (I have been warned by my mom to take out the racks before running it though or their finish will be ruined :) ). The Cooking Disaster Queen strikes again!!! :)

So sad. Pink eye hurts! I hope the picture of your eye does not scare me in the night. Laughing.

You couldn't possible be The Cooking Disaster Queen because the title already belongs to me! I've done it all. Try the self-cleaning oven thing -- it would be the easiest. The Pink Eye -- my sympathies, I used to get it occasionally back when I still wore contacts. It's awful. The drops should clear it up soon though. I had lasik 8 years ago -- the best thing! Good luck getting Drew's allergy problems solved.
