On The Mend

Well, thankfully Drew got over the stomach junk pretty quickly and was even able to go to sleep around midnight. This morning he is back to his normal self...and is SO glad to be feeling better that he is bouncing off the walls!

Zach had a rough night himself. He woke up around 4:30am really struggling to breath. Good ol' croup has struck him again (this is the 4th time I think in only 14.5 months). So he and I spent time breathing in some of that nice COLD (fridgid is more like it) air last night trying to get the swelling in his airway to reduce. That didn't seem to help much so it was then into the bathroom for some steam time. Poor little guys chest was being sucked in as he tried to breath and you could see the fear in his eyes. :( Thankfully I never saw his coloring get bad, so he was getting enough oxygen. Still wasn't a whole lot better, so I stood at the front door with him bundled up and the door slightly open trying to get some more cold air. It finally seemed to help him a little and he was able to relax enough to get back to sleep around 6am. Of course we didn't get much sleep since with Drew feeling better he came bounding in around 8am. Which was a good thing though since I needed to get up and call the doctor. So I packed up the boys and visited the doctor this morning. She prescribed a steroid for him to take for 5 days to hopefully help keep the swelling in the upper airway down. On top of all this gunk (coughing, breathing problems, runny nose) it looks like he might have a case of viral pink eye (something they aren't able to do anything for). And of course we are now holding our breath to see when the stomach flu is going to hit him.

I forgot to share another story with you all last night. This one comes with a warning that it is probably WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!! So you have been warned, you might not want to read on. But if you have a strong stomach, come join me in my adventure of the past week.

Ok, you have been warned......
So, Zach has been fighting cold after cold over the past almost 2 weeks now. These have brought the whole works for the kid...runny nose, cough, slight fever and the lovely loose stools...which of course brings a big, nasty diaper rash! Anyway, on Tuesday he had had MANY loose diapers and I had in fact just changed one and he was quietly playing over on a small stack of the ClosetMaid boxes we have for redoing our closets. When he came over to show me something a little later I noticed that he was stinky AGAIN. So I picked him up to go changing him. When we got to the changing table I noticed that it was coming out of the diaper and had gotten on my sleeve...GROSS I thought, but solved easily with a change of clothes and some rinsing of the original shirt. All changed, he goes back to play on the same boxes. I look over to see him with his finger in his mouth and he makes a face and then wipes his finger on the wall. So I go over to tell him not to wipe his finger on the wall...only to notice (as he starts to stick his finger in it again) that his diaper had not only leaked onto my sleeve and it was also on the wall and wall outlet! SUPER GROSS....and even more disgusting, he had STUCK IT IN HIS MOUTH!!!! GAG!!!! *shiver* I used SO many Clorox wipes & spray and other things scrubbing not only his hands, but also the wall and outlet cover!! *GAG* And this was after I had to clean up similar "stuff" off the kitchen floor on Saturday when he was allowed to run around naked before his bath right after he had had a dirty diaper change for the similar reason. *cringe* I have a very strong stomach, but these too things almost got to me even!

I do believe I have probably grossed you all out completely for today so I better go start dinner. *laugh* Have a great weekend!
